Fundamentals of Finite Element Analysis, David V. Hutton (2003)

June 25, 2003  0072922362  978-0072922363 1
This new text, intended for the senior undergraduate finite element course in mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering departments, gives students a solid, practical understanding of the principles of the finite element method within a variety of engineering applications.
Hutton discusses basic theory of the finite element method while avoiding variational calculus, instead focusing upon the engineering mechanics and mathematical background that may be expected of senior engineering students. The text relies upon basic equilibrium principles, introduction of the principle of minimum potential energy, and the Galerkin finite element method, which readily allows application of finite element analysis to nonstructural problems.
The text is software-independent, making it flexible enough for use in a wide variety of programs, and offers a good selection of homework problems and examples.
A Book Website is also included, with book illustrations for class presentation; complete problem solutions (password protected); the FEPC 2-D finite element program for student use; instructions on FEPC and its use with the text; and links to commercial FEA sites.

Project Management for Engineers and Construction, 2nd Edition, Garold Oberlender (2000)

Main description

The purpose of this book is to present the principles and techniques of project management, beginning with the conceptual phase by the owner, through coordination of design and construction, to project completion.
Throughout this book the importance of management skills is emphasized to enable the user to develop his or her own style of project management. The focus is to apply project management at the beginning of a project, when it is first approved. Too often the formal organization to manage a project is not developed until the beginning of the construction phase. This book presents the information that must be assembled and managed during the development and engineering design phase to bring a project to successful completion by the owner.

Table of contents

Chapter 1: Introduction Chapter 2: Working with Project Teams Chapter 3: Project Initiation Chapter 4: Early Estimates Chapter 5: Project Budgeting Chapter 6: Development of Work Plan Chapter 7: Design Proposals Chapter 8: Project Scheduling Chapter 9: Project Tracking Chapter 10: Design Coordination Chapter 11: Construction Phase Chapter 12: Project Close Out Chapter 13: Tips for Making Things Happen Chapter 14: Total Quality Management Appendix A: Example Project Appendix B: EJCDC Documents Appendix C: AIA Documents Appendix D: AGC Documents

Design of Concrete Structures 14th Edition, Arthur Nilson (2009)

About the Book

The 14th edition of the classic text, Design of Concrete Structures, is completely revised using the newly released 2008 ACI Code. The text covers the behavior and design aspects of concrete and provides thoroughly updated examples and homework problems throughout. The text presents the basic mechanics of structural concrete and methods for the design of individual members for bending, shear, torsion, and axial force, and also provides detail in the various types of structural systems applications.

Structural Analysis and Design of Tall Buildings: Steel and Composite Construction, Bungale S. Taranath (2011)

Author: Bungale S. Taranath | Size: 21.4 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: CRC Press | Year: October 18, 2011 | pages: 690 | ISBN: 978-1439850893

As software skills rise to the forefront of design concerns, the art of structural conceptualization is often minimized. Structural engineering, however, requires the marriage of artistic and intuitive designs with mathematical accuracy and detail. Computer analysis works to solidify and extend the creative idea or concept that might have started out as a sketch on the back of an envelope.

From Sketches on the Back of an Envelope to Elegant, Economical Buildings—The Art of Structural Conceptualization

Bridging the gap between the conceptual approach and computer analysis, Structural Analysis and Design of Tall Buildings: Steel and Composite Construction integrates the design aspects of steel and composite buildings in one volume. Using conceptual thinking and basic strength of material concepts as foundations, the book shows engineers how to use imperfect information to estimate the answer to larger and more complex design problems by breaking them down into more manageable pieces.

AISC - Steel Construction Manual - 13th Edition (2011)

American Institute Of Steel Construction, Aisc, quot;Steel Construction Manual, 13th Edition-quot;
American Institute of Steel Construction | 2006 | ISBN: 156424055X | 2190 pages | File type: PDF | 80 mb
Summary: Certainly a must-have!
Rating: 5
I was required to buy this book for a steel design course, and was annoyed at first with how expensive and bulky this book was, since I assumed we would only be using it for the tables. Once I knew how to use the book, though, I grew quite fond of it. Not only are the tables clearly marked, but the Manual and the commentary in the back were better than our textbook at explaining which equations to use and how to apply them. We now call this book our quot;Bible quot; because it has helped and guided us through our steel courses.
